Meet Locals – Strategy n°1 : Lure Them With Food

Published on 30 January 2012

Nothing better to conquer Belgians than good food. Brussels truly is a gourmet city, with no less than thirteen restaurants awarded with 16 Michelin stars in total. Here are a few tips to learn how to cook the best endives (we say « chicons »), brussels spouts, steak tartare (we call it « steak americain »), waterzooi, and shrimp croquettes.

Chef Recipes... Or Not

Our most famous chefs share their traditional recipes on the brusselicious 2012 webpage.

We do not have their talent or refinment but if you really want to make your life easy, here’s our 10-minute Waterzooi recipe (4p.). You need :

  • A hot, roasted chicken from the nearest supermarket
  • 4 potatoes
  • A waterzooi vegetables assortment (available at Carrefour supermarkets. Vegetables are already cut and seasoned)
  • 30 cl creme fraiche

Cut the chicken into 4 parts. Cover the chicken breasts and legs as well as the vegetables and the potatoes, cut into two, with water in a big saucepan. Add the seasoning mix included in the vegetable assortment, salt, pepper, and bring the water to boil. Once the potatoes are cooked, mix them with half of the bouillon from your saucepan. Pour the potato and bouillon mix back into the saucepan, add the cream and leave the waterzooi to stew until you are really hungry.
